Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game - Mordor vs Lothlorien

I had another great fun game of the Strategy Battle Game with Merlin. I, of course used my Mordor force and Merlin used his Lorien elves.
As host, Merlin set up (most of) the terrain and came up with a scenario. In this case we each placed three counters, one represented a lone Hobbit which both sides were looking for, though doubtless for very different reasons. When a model moved into contact with a counter the player rolled a die, on a six it was the Hobbit. If the Hobbit wasn't found by the fifth token, the last one was automatically the objective. The Hobbit could then be carried off the table to safety.

Initial set up

The elves of Lothlorien

Elven cavalry

The hosts of Mordor

Cavalry advance

The final fighting around the tower

The game played very well. My four Warg Riders were hampered by my only winning priority twice. Merlin started very well, Elven archery took out a few orcs early on. But I managed to bring my superior numbers to bear, and eventually my orcs captured the Hobbit, with only Haldir left to stop them. He promptly failed his Courage test after winning Priority on the turn after the orcs too had been broken.
Very good fun and exciting.
One thing we noticed was that Merlin often won duels, especially with his charging cavalry, but failed to damage the orcs, even when they were knocked prone, whereas I was luckier, and even shot a couple of elves with my orc trackers.

    1. Yes, I'm looking forward to the next game, along with our War of the Ring project.
I've even had some thoughts about a short story driven series of games.
